Assemblies

School assemblies are held regularly and are a great opportunity for classes to demonstrate their learning to the rest of the school. At the end of each term there is a short assembly at the end of the day, just before dismissal.

School Photo Day

School photo day is held at the start of each year. Classrooms are allocated a time where their class will have an individual photo and a class photo with their teacher taken. Parents are also able to request a family photo, if they have more than one child at the school. Students are required to wear the appropriate school uniform on photo day. It is a visual record of each year your child attends primary school. Each child is issued their own photo envelope prior to the day with families making the payment directly to the photographers online or via the photo envelope.

Harmony Day

Harmony Day is held in March. The day represents cohesion and inclusion in Australia and promotes a tolerant and culturally diverse society. It’s a day where activities and celebrations help students understand how Australians of different backgrounds live together. It provides a great opportunity for students to learn that not only do they share common ground with other cultures, but also that our differences make Australia a special place to live. Harmony day students can come to school dressed in orange or traditional costume.

Anzac Day

ANZAC (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) Day is the anniversary of the landing of troops from Australia and New Zealand on the Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey, in World War I on April 25, 1915. It is a day we commemorate all Australians and New Zealanders “who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations” and “the contribution and suffering of all those who have served”.

Remembrance Day
Remembrance Day (also known as Poppy Day) occurs on the 11th of November every year to remember the members of their armed forces who have died in the line of duty.

Book Week

Book week is held nationally in August each year and the book week parade is one of the highlights of this week for our students. The parade is usually held on Friday of Book Week and students will dress up as their favourite book character or in costume connected to the book week theme. The classes assemble in the middle yard, then each class will take turn to walk around the circle in a parade style. Teachers get involved by dressing up in character as well.

Science Week

Science week is an annual celebration of science and technology across Australia.
Each year there has a different theme for example, 2023 is ‘Innovation, powering future industries’
Learning activities are planned throughout the week with a focus on Science.

Reception to Year 6 – Sports Day

Students are divided into four teams:
Bradman (White)
Stuart (Blue)
Penfold (Green)
Florey (Red)

This whole school event is held in Term 3. Each team has an allocated colour and the students can dress up in their team colours. The day consists of classes competing in athletic and novelty sports. Parents and carers are encouraged to watch on and cheer for their children. Students are required to wear comfortable clothing and sports shoes. Sun protection such as sunscreen and hats are also required as students will be outside all day. Snacks, lunch and water will need to be brought from home.
Junior primary children stay until lunchtime and participate in events with their class. Then they can either be collected by parents or return to school for the remainder of the day. Years 3-6 students stay all day.

Swimming Carnival

The Year 3 to Year 6 Swimming Carnival is held in term 1 of each year at the Burnside Swimming Centre at Hazelwood Park (walking distance from the school). Students compete in house team swimming and novelty events. Parents come along to cheer for their child’s house team.
